SGTech Smart Nation Chapter Launch a Success



The inaugural launch of the much talked about SGTech Smart Nation Chapter (SNC) was successfully held on 24 July 2018.  Filled with chatter and excitement from close to 100 members and guests, at ATOUT @ Dempsey, the evening started with a welcome address from Mr. Lau Shih Hor, Chairman of SGTech Smart Nation Chapter.

“SGTech Smart Nation Chapter aims to promote and facilitate the growth of an ecosystem of smart technology adopters, regulators, and innovators to provide holistic Smart Cities solutions for both local and international markets”, Mr Lau said. To build up the ecosystem, the chapter would require much collaboration and leverage, in forming partnerships and engagement. 
Mr Lau spoke about the “ABC” of SGTech Smart Nation Chapter, in which it represents:
 


In looking ahead, the chapter plans to:
  • Partner key Agencies in Smart Nation and Built Environment
  • Adopt or Create Key Events, plan study trips, obtain grants support
  • Tabulate Solution Mapping for members
  • Foster interoperability based on open local and International standards
  • Call for Solutions, Leverage grant schemes for innovation
  • Call for Partnership Event, Leverage grant schemes for collaboration
  • Networking Events with theme and speaker

In answering the frequently asked question of how to get involved in the chapter, Mr Lau informed that the first step is for non-members to join SGTech as an Ordinary or Associate member, volunteer to contribute in the executive committee, where there’s an option to be co-opted in the chapter, as well as to attend the Annual Chapter meeting to be held in September 2018.

SGTech Vice chair of Smart Nation Chapter, Managing Director of Cisco Systems USA Pte Ltd, Ms. Tay Bee Kheng highlighted the four key areas in CISCO Internet of Things (IoT) system which they are focused on:
  • Network and Connectivity 
  • Data Analytics
  • Security Cyber and Physical
  • Management and Automation

Ms. Tay encouraged companies who would like to find out more, to approach her in the sharing of information.


(Mr Poon Joe Keen, Managing Director (Smart City Solutions), Surbana Technologies Pte Ltd sharing on the ecosystem and collaboration of partners for projects)

 In the next segment, Mr Poon Joe Keen, Managing Director (Smart City Solutions), Surbana Technologies Pte Ltd shared on four key areas that city leaders are concerned:
  • Efficiency
  • Sustainability
  • People
  • Security
Mr Poon spoke about the collaboration model where they are working with Enterprise Singapore as well as various SME and startups, and institutes of higher learning. Surbana Jurong would invest in technologies as a test bed which arises to innovation and services in the facilities and buildings. 
Last but not least, Mr Clarence Hoe, Director of Infrastructure Services in Enterprise Singapore spoke about the enthusiasm in putting together and working closely with SGTech to support the Smart Nation Chapter.
