SGTech Led a Singapore Delegation to London Tech Week

 

To support our members who wish to grow beyond Singapore, SGTech led a Singapore delegation of 8 companies to London Tech Week from 13 June to 17 June 2022. 

London Tech Week is United Kingdom (UK)’s tech flagship event which sought to gather more than 20,000 global corporate leaders, start-up's ecosystem stakeholders, and government representatives to build a better and more inclusive digital world. 

At the London Tech Week 2022, 8 anchor events and more than 300 fringe events were featured.  These events focused on emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability, Web 3.0, and HealthTech.

The mission trip was initiated with the following objectives:

  •  Appreciate the business sentiments in view of global developments
  •  Establish the possible value proposition(s) of Singapore-based enterprise technology companies in Europe/London tech ecosystem
  •  Introduce the UK Market and relevant bodies/organisations to Singapore-based enterprise technology companies
  •  Support Singapore-based enterprise technology companies in building relevant European-based business contacts and generate relevant business leads

A total of 8 curated meetings, 3 networking receptions and 4 conferences were included in the 5 days itinerary for the delegation. Some of the highlights below: 

13 June 2022: Meeting with techUK

 

 

Singapore delegates had their first introductory and networking session at the techUK

 

We received a warm welcome from techUK, with whom SGTech signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) back in February this year, to collaborate on areas ranging from digital trade facilitation, cyber security and digital identities.

UK as a global tech powerhouse offers various regional tech hotspots with fantastic opportunities for entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. 

techUK gave a presentation on UK’s tech landscape outlook and market opportunities to the Singapore delegates. UK has a $1 trillion tech ecosystem and now has over 115 unicorns, more than any country in Europe. The tech investments have grown 2.3 times in 2021, ranking second only to the USA. 

 

13 June 2022: Singapore Delegation Networking Reception organised by SGTech

SGTech arranged a networking reception among the Singapore delegation on the first evening of the programme and invited representatives from Enterprise SG, SG Innovate, Department of International Trade, techUK, West Midlands Growth Company and Vertex Holdings. We are honoured to have Lord Sarfraz, UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Singapore to grace the networking session and having introductory discussions with the delegates. 

 

14 June 2022: Meeting with Tech Nation

At the introductory meeting at Tech Nation, the delegates gained insights into the UK start-ups and scaleups ecosystem and had an overview of the Tech Nation programmes. There was also a sharing on the benefits of the Tech Nation (Global Talent) Visa for foreign talents who are keen to work in the UK’s technology sector.  

 

15 Jun 2022: UK-Asia Pacific Partnership Conference

 

 

At the UK-Asia Pacific Partnership Conference - The Next Tech Growth Frontier, our Singapore delegates had the opportunity to meet with Ms Natalie Black, Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific, 15 June

 

On Day 3 of the programme, the delegates attended the UK-Asia Pacific Partnership Conference - The Next Tech Growth Frontier hosted by Natalie Black, Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific at Deloitte’s London Campus.  The session included a range of panel sessions where conversations among exploring synergies, opportunities and challenges for the UK and APAC tech ecosystems were discussed.

15 June 2022: Meeting with Digica

The delegates had a meeting with Digica, an international software solutions company, working at the forefront of the Artificial Intelligence revolution, to explore collaboration and partnership opportunities on AI projects. In this meeting, Digica shared case studies of projects from a range of industries, such as automotive, defence, life science, security and transportation.

16 June 2022: Meeting with InnovateUK

 

 

An online meeting with Innovate UK representative, Mr David Campbell-Molloy, Asia Partnership Manager.

 

In the session with InnovateUK, Mr David Campbell-Molloy shared how InnovateUK helps ambitious small and medium-sized companies to grow and scale their business through their bespoke programmes. Back in Dec 2021, Singapore and the UK have signed a bilateral MOU to strengthen collaboration in co-innovation,joint research and development (R&D), to enhance enterprise competitiveness and facilitate go-to-market partnerships in emerging technologies. Under the MOU, (Enterprise Singapore) ESG and InnovateUK will launch the Singapore-UK Bilateral Co-Innovation Programme (CIP) to create  more opportunities and support for Singapore and UK enterprises. Enterprises will be able to tap technological expertise and market knowledge, as well as receive funding. The first CIP was recently closed in April 2022 and the next one is scheduled to launch in 2023. 

17 June 2022: Meeting with BSI Group

On the last day of the programme, the delegates had a session with BSI Group where Mr David Mudd shared his insights on Digital Trust in UK, Europe and Global. He highlighted the importance of building trust in the digital interactions between people, organisations and things with a focus on digital governance/risk management, cybersecurity, privacy, digital supply chain, data stewardship and AI. BSI Group also discussed how they can help Singapore companies build credibility and business globally and in the UK through digital trust.
