Chapter Chairs Describe their Chapter’s Focus in FY21/22

At this year’s Annual Chapter Meetings held in early September, members heard about the focus of the Chapters in the coming term. Here is a summary of each Chapter’s focus.

Artificial Intelligence & High Performance Computing Chapter

“The pandemic has complicated matters in the past financial year and it has been challenging for many of our members. However, we must continue to progress and push the agenda of our Chapter.

"To develop a future-ready workforce and emerge stronger post-COVID-19, the Chapter will focus on three key areas: create greater awareness around Artificial Intelligence & High Performance Computing (AI & HPC), facilitate the adoption of AI & HPC among users and nurture talent in these two domains. We will also engage key stakeholders in the AI & HPC ecosystem such as AI Singapore and National Supercomputing Centre for their support.

"The fields of AI & HPC are more relevant than ever and advancing at breakneck speed. With more high-quality initiatives, networking opportunities, and outreach programmes, I am certain that we will achieve a great deal together this coming term.”
- Dr Sinuhe Arroyo, Chair, Artificial Intelligence & High Performance Computing Chapter

Cloud & Data Chapter

“First and foremost, we want to increase adoption of cloud technologies in the industry through education. Our initiatives such as the Cloud Appreciation Series will continue to serve as an important platform for knowledge sharing with both hyperscalers and local system integrators. We will also improve the overall standard of available cloud offerings by educating Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) on the Multi-Tier Cloud Security Standard. This will help all CSPs pick up the best practices for developing private and public cloud products and services.

"Secondly, we are also working on a programme to help people in Singapore build up cloud native skills and tackle the serious talent crunch faced by our industry.

"Lastly, we want to focus on increasing the level of engagement with the government and within our member companies. We will continue to organise joint activities with relevant agencies like IMDA and provide feedback on the programmes launched by the government. There will be more networking activities organised so we can better understand the challenges faced by our members and the help that they require.

"By achieving these goals, we hope that the Chapter will add value to our members by bridging the intentions of the government and the needs of our members.”
- Mr Gunasekharan Chellappan, Chair, Cloud & Data Chapter

 Cyber Security Chapter

"The Cyber Security Chapter has two key areas of focus:

"Drive Cyber Security Adoption: We must empower and enable SMEs to know and adopt the appropriate cyber protection for their business. Also, we want to encourage our ICT companies to embed cyber security and data protection features into digital tools by taking advantage of the funding support available from Government agencies and authorities.

"Talent for the Future: We need to expand the talent pipeline for the cybersecurity industry by inspiring more youths and mid-careerists to join. Leveraging industry veterans to share their experiences and illustrates career opportunities in cyber security can help deliver a convincing message to attract more talent to this sector."
- Mr Dutch Ng, Chair, Cyber Security Chapter

Digital Transformation Chapter

"The Digital Transformation Chapter (DxC) will continue to focus on sharing useful industry knowledge (e.g. Making Digital Transformation Work For Your Business), helping our members to find partners (both locally and abroad) and increase awareness of what they do. We believe that Digital Transformation is an ongoing process, which should be embraced by business culture and supported by employee readiness to it. As such, DxC will keep working with relevant education or training providers (e.g. SMU MITB Day 2021) and proactively engaging industry and government leaders in sharing successful transformation case studies with DxC.

"On top of that, we want to increase engagement within DxC. By organising regular coffee sessions with various Excos and member companies, members will have a space to share about themselves, discuss challenges faced as well as any opportunities they foresee will add value to the industry.

"We believe the Chapter can serve as a platform to develop an active community that caters to needs of our members and adds value to the industry.”
- Dr Mark Shmulevich, Chair, Digital Transformation Chapter

Singapore Enterprise Chapter

“The overarching goal of the Singapore Enterprise Chapter is to grow local enterprises. While we continue to focus on developing talent and internationalisation initiatives, we can also start to look at areas such as finance, education, and product development, and find out how can we benefit all our Chapter members, regardless of whether they are startups, SMEs, or MNCs.

"We also want to develop a deeper relationship with other TACs and build a good network that we can work with and leverage on. In addition, we are looking at increasing engagement between the Chapter and respective government agencies.

"I encourage all Chapter members to step forward to actively participate in the Chapter’s activities and to form strong bonds within the Chapter to see how we can all add value to the industry.”
- Mr Alex Ng, Chair, Singapore Enterprise Chapter

Smart Nation Chapter

“The Smart Nation Chapter will focus on three areas to enhance our positioning in Smart Nation thought leadership while promoting our members for local and regional Smart Nation or City projects.

"Firstly, we will accelerate our tech collaboration in industry verticals, by working with trade associations, regional Smart Nation associations, local Smart Labs, Institutes of Higher Learning and research centres to partner our members in co-developing or tech-collaborate for smart nation solutions.

"Next, we will take a holistic approach to support our SMEs by accelerating the adoption of their solutions in local and regional Smart Nation projects. We also aim to help SMEs that are ready to venture abroad by facilitating available fundings and tech collaboration with our regional network in Smart City projects.

"Finally, we will be actively engaging our members to contribute to our “Smart Nation Chapter Thought Leadership Series” with thought leadership articles on smart city solutions for both the Singapore and international markets. We welcome our members to come forward to propose new ideas for our Thought Leadership Series.”
- Mr Anthony Ong, Chair, Smart Nation Chapter
